Madagascar is the second largest island state in the world. More than 20 mio people live on this island, located in the Indian Ocean. Because it is quite near to Mauritius, it was logical that Ceres Ltd. founded an egg production here. The farm is located in Ivato and has approximately 40,000 layers. Most of the supermarkets are situated in the capital of Madagascar- Antananarivo- and you can find also hypermarkets like Jumbo Score Hypermarkets, Leader Price Supermarkets and Shoprite Supermarkets. The brands represented in Madagascar are Matines (French Franchise) and Atody (a local brand created one year ago). The eggs from the brand Matines are packed in glasclear packs from Ovotherm- Supersell 2x6 and 1x12. In the super- and hypermarkets Ceres Ltd. has 100% marketshare. Whilst the egg consumption per capita in Mauritius is about 110 eggs per year, it is much lower in Madagascar.
