Vorarlberg is the most Western province in Austria. There, in the village of Rankweil, on the premises of the egg farm "Sennhof" the 2 poultry and egg organisations QGV (insuring food safety) and ZAG (representing the farmers) held their annual conference and general assemby. The most generous hosts Gebhart and Monika Flatz had offered their beautiful farmhouse as the meeting place and shared all details of their brand success story "Sennhof" which includes eggs from barn and free range. They are the major egg supplier to local retail as well as producers of delicious homemade style noodles. Special eggs need special packaging- this is why Sennhof eggs are packed in Ovotherm- crystalclear Supersell for 10 white eggs and yellow Showcase for 15 brown eggs.
One of the main themes of the conference was traceability for foodsafety as well as the source and method of production. Austria is completely cagefree in retail but imported egg products sneak in with eggs from caged chickens.
Therefore a campaign has been launched to declare the production method on all food items containing eggs- even in restaurants and catering. Thereby the nonconformity of imported products to Austrian cage law is highlighted to consumers.
Ovotherm's senior partner and global ambassador of IEC (International Egg Commission) Mr. Willi Kallhammer was an invited speaker on international trends in the egg business. His statement: "It is surely more dangerous not to eat eggs than to eat eggs" was happily quoted in the media as the times of limiting egg consumption to healthy people should be over based on scientific facts and not on overaged and false dogmas.
This was considered as a welcome support of the healthiest but underrated food available!
