Ovotherm- Now Member of the United Nations Global Compact
Since January 2009, Ovotherm is a member of the United Nations Global Compact. This is a
worldwide pact between
enterprises and the UNO, which was created to make the
globalisation more social and economical. Members like Ovotherm work together with the UNO
for more Human Rights, Employees and Environmental Protection as well as
against coruption. The UN Global Compact was founded in the
year 2000 by the former
UNO General Secretary Kofi Annan. The UN Global Compact has already more than
5.000 members from different social and industrial categories, coming from more than
130 countries worldwide. About
20 are
Austrian companies and organisations.
The UN Global Compact consists of
10 principles, which are implemented in the
company policies.
Companies, who have signed the UN Global Compact, should:
1. respect the internationally proclaimed human rights and promote them in their sphere of influence.
2. make sure, that they are not participating in human rights violations
3. accept the right of their employees to join the unions and effectively accept their right for collective bargaining
4. exclude all forms of compulsory labour or forced labour
5. contribute in the abolution of childrens work
6. exclude all discrimination concerning job or occupation
7. take up a preventive approach against hazards to the environment
8. take up initiative to increase a better ecological awareness
9. encourage the invention and distribution of environmentally friendly technologies
10. eventuate against all kinds of corruption, including blackmail and bribery
From these principles one can assume the
goals of the UN Global Compact members. They include a
social and environmentally friendly attitude from all companies and cities, the promotion of
cooperative engagement from companies and to make the partnership between interest groups stronger.
